A liver function test (LFT) measures the levels of certain enzymes in the your blood which are usually only found in liver cells. Only when liver cells become damaged are these enzymes are released into the blood. So measuring the level of these enzymes in your blood is an important indicator for liver disease.

 

A liver function test usually involves a visit to the hospital. On the NHS it can take many weeks to turn around and to have the test done privately costs in excess of £400.
